Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Foster's

At Foster’s Primary School, we are committed to creating an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious learning environment where every child is valued and supported to achieve their full potential. We recognise that children learn in different ways and that some pupils may require additional support in order to access learning; develop confidence and thrive both academically and emotionally.

We believe that all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), should feel safe and successful within school. Our approach is centred around high expectations; inclusive practice; early identification and strong partnerships between school, families and outside professionals.

Our SEND provision is designed to ensure that barriers to learning are identified early and appropriate support is put in place quickly so that every pupil can fully participate in school life and make meaningful progress.


Our SEND Ethos

At Foster’s, we understand that every child is unique. We celebrate neurodiversity and recognise the strengths, talents and individuality of all pupils. Through adaptive teaching, targeted interventions and wellbeing support, we aim to create a learning environment where all children feel included and respected.

We are committed to:

  • Ensuring all pupils have access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.
  • Identifying additional needs as early as possible.
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and external professionals.

  • Delivering high-quality adaptive teaching across the school.

 

The SEND Team is led by our Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCO), Miss Smith.

If you have any concerns regarding your child or would like more information about how we can support your child's needs, please speak to your child's class teacher and they will be able to arrange an internal referral.

Bexley Local Offer

The Bexley Local Offer provides information about the services available to children, young people and their families across Education, Health and Social Care. The Bexley Local Offer is published as part of the SEND reforms under the Children and Families Act 2014 and will be developed over time.

Foster's Accessibility Plan 2025

Every school must have a school accessibility plan, which shows how they plan to improve accessibility for special educational needs pupils - and when these improvements will be made.

Below is Foster's Accessibility plan outlining how the school intends to:

  • Increase the extent to which pupils with disabilities can participate in the curriculum.
  • Improve the physical environment to enable pupils with disabilities to take better advantage of the education, benefits, facilities and services provided in school.

Bexley Voice

Bexley Voice is a parent-carer forum in Bexley which offers advice, support and training opportunities for parents/carers of children with additional needs (diagnosed or undiagnosed). 

They offer tea and talk sessions which often have speakers who attend the sessions.
